ABOUT TMS

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive procedure that uses an electromagnetic coil to deliver magnetic pulses to targeted areas of the brain. The equipment we use is FDA-cleared and CE-marked, and has been in clinical use for more than 20 years, including in Hospital Authority hospitals in Hong Kong.

TMS treatment is provided on a referral-only basis. TMS treatment is delivered in a series of sessions. The exact number and schedule are determined by the treating doctor. Please refer to the Services section below for more details on the available treatment options.

Clinical assessment and treatment decisions are made by the patient's treating doctor. 

• Non-invasive: No anaesthesia is required; the patient remains awake throughout the procedure
• No recovery period: Patients can resume daily activities after each session 

Some people may experience mild and temporary effects, such as:
• Facial muscle twitching
• Scalp discomfort at the treatment site
• Headache
• Dizziness
Seizure is a rare side effect when treatment is delivered according to established safety guidelines. 

SERVICES

1. Standard TMS Course

A typical course involves 30 sessions. Each session lasts approximately 15 to 30 minutes. The exact number of sessions is determined by the treating doctor.

2. Multiple Sessions on the Same Day

Where clinically appropriate, more than one session may be arranged on the same day according to the treatment plan set by the doctor.

3. Booster & Maintenance Sessions

Additional sessions may be arranged when recommended by the doctor.

ABOUT US

We operate TMS equipment at New Town Specialists Medical Centre.

We use MagVenture TMS equipment, a model also adopted by hospitals under the Hospital Authority. We use Atlas Neuronavigation for guided coil positioning.

The first treatment session is overseen and assessed by a psychiatrist, who reviews the individual’s medical history (including medication, history of epilepsy, and any metal implants) to confirm suitability and formulate a personalised plan.

OUR TEAM

Professor Kranz

Founder

Professor Kranz is a neuroscientist with over 20 years of research and clinical experience in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). In his early career, he conducted in-depth research into TMS in Austria, establishing a solid academic foundation. He subsequently moved to Hong Kong, where he continued his TMS research and teaching in a university setting, whilst applying his research findings to clinical practice. Drawing on his experience in both academia and clinical practice, Professor Kranz founded Kranz Neurohealth Partners Limited to apply evidence-based TMS research in clinical settings.

Mr. Tang

TMS Specialist

Mr. Tang is a certified Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapist. He has received formal training in TMS operation and has clinical experience in delivering TMS treatment under the guidance of Professor Kranz. He is responsible for operating the TMS equipment according to the prescribed treatment plan and for monitoring patients during sessions.
